Knowing
Your Needs Is the Foundation of any Project
The following figure
shows some of the key questions addressed
in Needs Analysis:

As the diagram indicates,
Needs Analysis serves as the springboard
for the Development
and Project
Management processes, which run concurrently
throughout the project and are fulfilled
in Final Delivery.
The Needs Analysis phase is where scope
planning begins for the project. This is
when the extent of required functionality
is established (although this may change
as your needs evolve); when the client establishes
parameters for the project’s budget
and timeline; and when project deliverables
are outlined.
The Needs Analysis
process is designed to facilitate needed
communication and get the necessary questions
answered, and thus to ground the project
on solid footing. Throughout the process,
GHS staff will also spend time getting to
know your organization's background, culture,
business rules, and procedures, so that
a smooth working relationship can be established
and so that any “hidden” needs
can be revealed and incorporated into the
project.
