The Need:
The Lake County, IL,
Division of Transportation is building an
Advanced Transportation Management System
(ATMS) to control its traffic signal infrastructure.
The system will rely on real-time data being
exchanged between a number of traffic management
centers, and needs to integrate several
ICONS-based
management centers, allowing regional approaches
to transportation issues. A critical part
of the system, then, is a centre-to-centre
(C2C) communications interface from the
Traffic Signal Control System (TSCS) to
the ATMS Central.
The system also needs
to be NTCIP-compliant.
The Solution:
Gray Hill is creating
a C2C XML-based communications system to
meet the needs of the Lake County DOT. NTCIP
compliance is a challenge, as the C2C Working
Group has yet to come out with a firm standard
for XML. Using existing C2C Working Group
papers, open-source solutions from NET,
and schema suggestions agreed to by the
client, we have created a schema that adheres
to NTCIP and meets the needs of the County.
GHS is designing a
C2C communications interface meeting the
standards and expectations of the ATMS project.
Since we are in the planning stage for the
project, further details are not yet available.
The Results:
The project is nearing
completion. |
