Rear-Projection
Past GHS projects have
covered a lot of ground, but can broadly
grouped into three categories: transportation-related
projects; urban forestry solutions implementation;
and database consulting. |
| Transportation-Related
Projects |
| WSDOT
Communications Plan and GIS |
 |
GHS has
completed a statewide communications plan
for the Washington Department of Transportation.
This project created a phased plan to cover
all voice and data communications needs for
the department. GHS has also created a communications
geodatabase to track all available communications
infrastructure for WSDOT and help plan future
telecom investment. |
| Light
Lanes ITS Implementation Plan |
 |
For the Washington Department
of Transportation and Universal Communications
Networks, Inc., Gray Hill Solutions has written
an ITS (intelligent transportation systems)
implementation plan and has created an ITS
Planning database with links to GIS and Visio.
The plan outlines the strategy for the statewide
implementation of ITS devices along interstate
highways in Washington State. These ITS devices
are to use a 700+ mile fiber optic network
for communications. The plan therefore also
details fiber management strategies, cost
estimates, splicing plans, access point locations
and critical risk assessments. |
| Portland
(OR) ITS Architecture |
 |
As a subconsultant to
David Evans and Associates, Inc., in Portland,
Oregon, Gray Hill Solutions has provided ITS
architecture expertise required in an application
to USDOT for statewide ITS funding. The application
was submitted by the client, TRANSPORT - a
consortium of statewide transportation agencies
including ODOT, Metro, City of Portland, Multnomah
County, and others. |
| Roadway
Overlay Cost Estimator Development |
 |
As part of its services
to a client in the transportation engineering
field, Gray Hill has created PEACE™
(Project Engineer's Approximate Cost Estimator),
an innovative system that produces roadway
overlay estimates in real time based on AutoCAD
design files. The system allows civil engineers
and planners to analyze costs dynamically,
taking into account pavement widths, jurisdictional
boundaries, funding sources, pavement types
and other factors. |
| Urban Forestry
Implementations |
| TreePro™
and Complements Development and Installations |
 |
Gray Hill Solutions'
first product was TreePro, a GIS-based asset-tracking
system for urban forestry. Although GHS
no longer develops or markets TreePro, the
product is being actively used by numerous
colleges, cities, and home owners associations
(and of course we are honoring standing
service commitments).
|
| Database Consulting |
| Stream
Diversion Database and GIS |
 |
Gray Hill Solutions
has created a system to track water diversions
in Idaho that impact fish migration and spawning.
The database, forged from a bewildering mass
of data sources, records historic diversions
dating back over a century, and will track
future diversions and patterns to allow analysis
by relevant agencies. |
| Fire
Management Database Consulting |
 |
Gray Hill Solutions
has provided client database consulting services
for Los Angeles County's fire prevention unit.
A future phase of this project may involve
creating a system to track vegetation that
can serve as fuel in the county. This information
could then be used to track the likely spread
of fires in certain areas and under certain
conditions. |
| Pesticide
Database Consulting |
 |
GHS provided a client
with database consulting services for the
California Department of Pesticide Regulation
(DPR). Gray Hill has analyzed the structure
and content of DPR's databases and compared
them to sales data for pesticide vendors within
a selected watershed. GHS has also created
a methodology to relate these two previously
unrelated sets of data, and estimated the
amount of active ingredients sold within the
watershed. |
