Evans and Associates had a roadway overlay
project involving many potential alignments,
pavement types, treatments and other characteristics.
DEA needed to create cost estimates for
these different options, and also needed
the ability to revise cost estimates quickly
when clients, public meetings or other groups
changed elements of the alternatives. Since
each cost estimate had so many variables,
using a spreadsheet would be unwieldy and
confusing.
The Solution:
GHS set out to design
a piece of software that could generate
cost estimates as quickly and accurately
as possible.
The Implementation:
GHS analyzed DEA's
needs and created a system that combined
a specialized Access database and AutoCAD,
allowing the creation of cost estimates
on the fly from changes in the CAD drawings.
The Results:
This project has been
successfully completed; DEA's client was
amazed at the rapid turnaround. This project
also resulted in the development of PEACE™,
GHS's pre-packaged roadway overlay cost
estimator software.
